The term, diversity is meant to represent all perspectives from groups that have traditionally been excluded from or insufficiently examined. The term also takes into account the external forces that influence how  institutions meet their objectives.

We believe diversity in institutions enriches the professional and educational experience. We learn from experiences different from our own that challenge our beliefs, and perspectives, and these lessons can be taught best in a richly diverse intellectual and social environment.

Educating staff to work effectively in a diverse environment helps organizations prevent discrimination and promote inclusiveness.
